Walid Regragui’s reaction after Morocco’s victory over the Comoros

The match, played in difficult weather conditions at the Moulay Abdellah sports complex, had all the makings of a trap game. Dominant but sterile during the first 45 minutes, the Atlas Lions had to wait before making the difference. The first half was marked by a missed penalty by Soufiane Rahimi and the injury-forced substitution of captain Romain Saïss.

It took until the second half for the situation to clear up. Brahim Díaz opened the scoring (55th), freeing up spaces, before Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the outcome of the match with an acrobatic overhead kick (74th).

At the final whistle, Walid Regragui provided a lucid analysis, highlighting the inherent difficulty of opening matches. "It’s never easy to start a competition. We did the job," the coach confided.

The technician acknowledged the imperfections of the start of the match: "We controlled the game in the first half but we didn’t create enough chances. There was a lack of presence in the box. We came back to our flaws. We corrected that in the second half with the substitutions."

For Regragui, the essential is assured with these first three points taken in front of the Moroccan public. "From the moment we scored our two goals, we were in control. It’s a good omen. It was important to win the first match in front of our supporters," he concluded. Morocco provisionally takes the lead in Group A before facing Mali next Friday.
