CAN 2025: Morocco's bet is already won - the figures prove it

The bet is won. Beyond the sporting challenge, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is emerging as a tremendous economic accelerator for Morocco. Saturated airports, full hotels and massive investments: the Kingdom is taking advantage of the "CAN" effect to break historic attendance records and prepare the ground for the 2030 World Cup.

The figures are dizzying. By the end of November 2025, Morocco has welcomed 18 million tourists, confirming that the strategy of linking football and tourism is working at full speed. The Ministry of Tourism is under no illusion: the competition acts as a powerful "revealer" of the Moroccan destination, allowing the African clientele to be retained while consolidating the traditional European markets thanks to a promotional offensive led at full speed by the ONMT.

In the sky, the excitement is palpable. The airports of the host cities (Agadir, Casablanca, Fès, Marrakech, Rabat, Tanger) have seen their traffic jump by more than 10% as the kick-off approaches. A symbol of this dynamic, Casablanca’s Mohammed V airport has for the first time in its history crossed the 11.5 million passenger mark in 2025. For ONDA, this performance validates the "Airports 2030" plan, designed to bring the infrastructure up to standard before co-hosting the World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

To transport these millions of supporters and visitors, the Moroccan sky has opened up like never before. Low-cost airlines are in the front line: Transavia has increased its offer by 30% from France, while Ryanair is preparing to open its fifth Moroccan base in Rabat in April 2026, connecting the capital to new European destinations such as Milan or Nuremberg. For its part, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is playing its role as a continental hub, using the CAN to strengthen its African network, aiming to become the backbone of mobility on the continent with a fleet that will double by 2030.

This football fever is accompanied by a titanic construction site. The State has injected 14.5 billion dirhams for the renovation of the stadiums and the construction of the Grand Stade de Benslimane. The hotel industry is following suit with a spectacular upgrade: 43,000 new beds have been created, bringing the national capacity to over 304,000 beds, the majority of which are 4 and 5 stars. A structural transformation that boosts national growth, with GDP showing a 4% increase in 2025, driven by this winning cocktail of sport, tourism and investment.
