CAF Reconsiders Morocco for Champions League Final Over Spectator Ban

While Morocco was already looking forward to hosting the Champions League final, it is possible that this will no longer take place on the pitch of the Mohammed V stadium as planned. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) does not want the closed-door imposed by Morocco, certainly because of the efforts made to stabilize the epidemiological situation in the country.
The holding of the final was already a done deal because it had been announced for several months by CAF, led by Patrice Motsepe. But according to the latest news, the institution would have changed its mind. Morocco does not want the presence of spectators, even in a limited way, to support the finalists of this competition.
The issue will be at the heart of the meeting this week of the CAF Competitions Committee, reports the newspaper Assabah, which stresses that the members of this committee must decide on the change of venue. The Douala stadium in Cameroon could host this final which opposes the Egyptians of Al Ahly to the South Africans of Kaizer Chiefs. Unlike Morocco, Cameroon has nothing against the presence of spectators at football matches. This was the case during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) won in February by Morocco.
Driven by a concern to preserve the health and well-being of citizens, especially with the presence of tourists and other vacationers, Morocco is losing the opportunity to host the final of one of the most prestigious competitions on the African continent. Unless CAF accepts the condition imposed by the Moroccan health authorities.
