CAF President Urges Morocco-Algeria Joint World Cup Bid, Citing Strong Infrastructure

Welcoming the successful organization of the 7th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2023) which took place from January 13 to February 4, 2023 in Algeria, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, suggested the idea of a joint Morocco-Algeria bid for a World Cup.
"Algeria and Morocco must submit a bid to host a World Cup. I am satisfied with the quality of their infrastructure. It would make us proud!" Patrice Motsepe said at a press conference he held on Saturday, February 4 in Algiers, a few hours before the CHAN 2023 final match which saw the victory of Senegal over Algeria. Franco-Algerian journalist Vanessa Le Moigne also expressed the same wish. She "expresses the pious wish to see the North African countries join hands one day to organize a World Cup," she wrote in a message posted on social media, after congratulating Senegal on their victory and paying tribute to Algeria for the successful organization of the CHAN.

A few weeks earlier, the communication director of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Salah Bey-Aboud, had expressed the wish that Algeria jointly host a World Cup with other countries. "We are aware that the specifications for organizing a World Cup are not easy, but we hope in the coming years that we will be able to do so, even if it will be jointly with other countries," he said on the radio Beur FM.
