CAF President’s $20 Million Aid Claim Sparks Controversy in Moroccan Football

The intervention of the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, on a Senegalese radio station did not go unnoticed in Morocco, as he mentioned an aid of $20 million offered by the kingdom.
This amount has provoked many reactions from Moroccans, especially since it is not at all visible in the accounts published by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). The newspaper Le Matin explains: Ahmad Ahmad is actually talking about Morocco’s participation in the organization of CHAN 2018, for which $15 million was spent. The other three million were used to organize the African football symposium held in Skhirat in July 2017.
For the newspaper, these figures had not scandalized anyone at the time, as the kingdom hoped to obtain unwavering support from CAF for its candidacy to host the 2026 World Cup against the American trio.
If Morocco had obtained the organization of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, finally awarded to Egypt, no one would have mentioned this amount, the newspaper also writes.
