CAF Official: No Agreement Yet on 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Date in Morocco

The Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Congolese Veron Mosengo-Omba, assured that FIFA, CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) have not yet found common ground on the date of the holding of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) in Morocco.
All the information published in recent days concerning the setting of the date of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco is unfounded, said Veron Mosengo-Omba in an interview published by Kenyan journalist Eric Njiru on his X (ex-Twitter) account. According to him, negotiations are still ongoing between CAF, FIFA, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), as well as the European Club Association, in order to reach a final agreement and find an appropriate date for the holding of CAN 2025.
Morocco’s wish is to host the next CAN in July 2025, and more precisely from July 23 to August 21, just after the Club World Cup. A wish that may not materialize. "You know that in the summer of 2025 the first edition of the Club World Cup in its new format will be held, and so we will have to find a solution that suits everyone before making any decision, and we will focus our discussions on the players who are considered the central element of this issue," explained the CAF Secretary General. Nothing is therefore yet decided.
