CAF Considers Postponing 2025 AFCON in Morocco to Avoid Club World Cup Clash

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) would consider postponing the date of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled in Morocco, which would coincide with that of the Club World Cup.
According to journalist "Micky Jnr", close to CAF, the governing body of African football is preparing to postpone the 2025 AFCON to January 2026. "We have been informed that the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will be held in January 2026 instead of June 2025," he said in a post on X.
The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, had stated that the 2025 Morocco AFCON should be held in the summer. For his part, the president of CAF, Patrice Motsepe, had expressed the wish that the AFCON "be held at the right time", adding that he is "always in communication with FIFA regarding the dates".
