CAF Amends Membership Rules, Excluding Non-UN African States

During the 43rd ordinary session of the General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) held in Morocco in March, an amendment limiting membership in the organization to only African states that are members of the UN was adopted. The Polisario has reacted to this amendment, which constitutes a real obstacle for it.
The Polisario is in difficulty. According to the approved amendment to Article 4 of the organization’s statutes, "no state that is not a member of the UN can sit within the CAF." In a letter, the Polisario denounces the "discriminatory" amendment targeting it. "It is a conspiracy orchestrated whose instigator is the former Secretary General of the CAF, originally from Morocco," the separatist movement also denounces.
"This strange and dangerous amendment constitutes a violation of the foundations and references under which the CAF was constituted. It violates the various continental and international principles and laws governing football," the letter notes.
The Polisario also insistently demands that the African body "take the initiative and accelerate the correction of this fatal error."
