Brussels Protest Planned Against Hijab Ban in Universities, Authorities Limit Attendance

A demonstration is scheduled for this Sunday in Brussels at the Mont des Arts to denounce the ban on wearing the veil in higher education institutions, a decision taken by the constitutional court on June 4. Scheduled to take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., this movement could see some disturbances given the number of people who have already announced their presence.
More than 2,000 people have already announced on Facebook their intention to participate in this event. A number well above the "400 people authorized by the National Security Council for this type of outdoor event," reports lacapitale.be.
But the National Security Council does not intend to go beyond the authorized number. "We have had contacts with the organizers and the number of 400 will have to be respected, as well as all the measures requested by the NSC," assures the police of the Brussels-Ixelles zone, Ilse Van de Keere. The organizers of this demonstration could receive fines to pay, in case of violation of these various measures, specifies the same source.
