Brussels: "Open or we’ll kill your family", the ordeal of a jeweler struck with Kalashnikovs
A scene of terror in Anderlecht. Moustapha, a well-known jeweler on Rue Wayez, lived through a hellish evening this Wednesday. Kidnapped by a heavily armed squad, he was forced to hand over the contents of his safes to save his wife and children, who were threatened with death by accomplices.
This was a robbery of unheard-of violence, worthy of a major crime scenario, which shook the Belgian capital. It is around 8 pm when Moustapha returns home, on the territory of the City of Brussels. In the underground parking lot of his building, the trap closes: a van and four men are waiting for him.
The merchant is immediately overpowered and forcibly taken to his establishment, the Golden Wayez jewelry store, located in the heart of Anderlecht. But the ordeal is just beginning.
Once on site, the criminals play their trump card. They inform Moustapha that accomplices are watching his apartment, where his wife and children are. The ultimatum is chilling: "You open all the safes for us or we kill you and your wife."
To prove their determination, the robbers, equipped with two pistols, a taser and a Kalashnikov, do not hesitate to use force. The jeweler is violently struck in the head and eye with the assault rifle. Injured and terrified for his loved ones, he finally gives in. The squad makes off with the jewelry before fleeing.
This drama leaves a bitter taste in the neighborhood, especially since the threat was looming. Moustapha said he had been visited by police officers twice, warning him that he risked being the target of a burglary, without the authorities being able to specify precisely what information they were based on.
Installed in this new premises for only two months, Moustapha is an appreciated figure on Rue Wayez, a historic commercial artery where he advocates "human contact". Today, he and his family are in shock but remain "united". The investigation has been entrusted to the federal police, who will have to trace the trail of this apparently very well-prepared squad.
