Brussels Attack Investigators Search for Weapons Near Royal Palace, Come Up Empty

A site located opposite the Laeken castle was combed through by investigators on the trail of the terrorists’ weapons, perpetrators of the March 22, 2016 attacks. This search proved fruitless.

These bloody attacks, which killed 32 people and injured more than 300, were carried out by the same authors as the Paris attacks of November 13, 2015, according to the newspaper La dernière heure.

The weapons used to commit this crime against humanity are still being sought. According to the same source, the Belgian investigators have never stopped searching for the rest of the weapons belonging to these terrorists. At the beginning of the investigation, the investigators, assured that an arsenal would still be hidden in a hiding place, searched hundreds of garages, houses and apartments, without success.

The same newspaper specifies that the investigators also took an interest in a particular site, located right in front of the royal palace of Laeken, for the simple reason that it had become a meeting place for the El Bakraoui brothers, the March 22 suicide bombers. They spent hours there discussing in their car. According to the same source, several phone calls converge towards this dead end, where there are very few users, especially at night, the privileged moment for the members of the terrorist group to meet discreetly.

Even if the theory of the burial on site of several weapons, hidden under this green space, was seriously considered, the excavations carried out in this place, a few months ago, proved fruitless.
