Prosecutors Seek Trial for 8 Suspects in 2016 Brussels Terror Attacks
A 57-page document as a committal order in the case of the Brussels attacks of March 22, 2016. The federal public prosecutor’s office is requesting the referral to the assizes of eight of the 13 accused.
Among the eight accused, there is Oussama Atar, who would have died in Syria. The federal public prosecutor’s office wants him to be tried in the assizes, for participation in the activities of a terrorist group as a leader, as well as for murders and attempted murders in a terrorist context.
The seven other accused for whom the public prosecutor’s office is also requesting referral to the assizes for terrorist murders and participation in the activities of a terrorist group as a member, are named Salah Abdeslam, Mohamed Abrini, Sofien Ayari, Osama Krayem, Ali El Haddad Asufi, Bilal El Makhoukhi and Hervé Bayingana Muhirwa, reports 7sur7.be.
The federal public prosecutor’s office is also requesting the referral to the criminal court of Smail and Ibrahim Farisi, who had made the apartment on rue des Casernes in Etterbeek available to the terrorist cell. Against them, participation in the activities of a terrorist group as a member is retained. They risk 5 years in prison in the criminal court.
Finally, the federal public prosecutor’s office will request dismissal for the last three accused, Youssef El Ajmi, Brahim Tabich and Farid Cheffou.
