Brussels Airport Sees 42% Passenger Surge, Morocco Drives Record Traffic

The attendance at Brussels Airport (Brussels-Zaventem) increased by 42% in March 2023 compared to the same period last year. This is partly due to Morocco, one of the ten most visited countries last month.
The number of passengers passing through Brussels-Zaventem airport last March stands at 1,603,565 passengers, an increase of 42% compared to March 2022. As for the share of transfer passengers departing from Brussels Airport, it represents more than 17%, an increase of 84% compared to last year. These performances confirm "the recovery of intercontinental traffic and the position of Brussels Airport as a key hub for Brussels Airlines and its intercontinental and European Star Alliance partners," notes the airport in the Belgian capital.
These performances were achieved thanks to the most visited countries in March. At the top of the top 10 is Spain. It is followed by Germany, Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Switzerland. Portugal, Turkey and Morocco close the podium.
Brussels Airport says it has found that "the staggering of French/Dutch-speaking holidays has influenced attendance figures." And to add: "The extension of the French-speaking holidays results in a greater number of arrivals during the first week of March, while the start of the Dutch-speaking holidays results in a greater number of departures the last week of March."
