British Firm SDX Energy Resumes Gas Exploration in Morocco’s Gharb Basin

The British company "SDX Energy", based in London and specialized in oil and gas exploration, is resuming its offshore drilling activities in Morocco. It is launching the second phase of the drilling operation started in the northeast of the Gharb basin.
SDX Energy had suspended its program last June after completing its first three wells. It plans to launch new explorations in the second phase of the drilling operation started in the northeast of the Gharb basin: a well called KSR-19 already launched on November 18 and a second, SAK-1. The two targets are part of the Lalla Mimouna permit, the company said in a statement.
"The objective of these wells is to add reserves to enable us to continue to deliver gas to our customers in accordance with their contractual requirements," said Mark Reid, CEO of SDX Energy. "With SAK-1, we hope to open a new production area in South Lalla Mimouna to the west of our main production area," he added.
The company is looking for "shallow biogenic gas". The first well is close to existing infrastructure. This will allow for rapid and low-cost connection. According to SDX Energy’s details, KSR-19 targets the "Main Hoot" reservoir, at a depth of about 1,780 meters. As for the second well, SAK-1, it hopes to hit a pocket at around 1,300 meters. The operation should be completed this month.
