British Firm Halts Gas Exploration Well in Morocco Due to Geological Challenges

The British company Predator Oil & Gas has suspended the drilling of the MOU-2 well in the Guercif oil agreement.
New update on the drilling of the Mou-2 well launched as part of the operation in the Guercif basin, in northern Morocco. Difficulties related to the geological structure have led Predator Oil & Gas to suspend the MOU-2 exploration well after reaching a measured depth of 1,260 meters. According to the company’s explanations, the drilling platform "encountered, in a geological formation overlying the main target of the Moulouya Fan", an "extremely sticky" layer, significant thicknesses of sands. As a result, the penetration rates of the structure have fallen below 1 meter per hour.

Faced with this obstacle, "the most prudent and safest option was to suspend the well and leave it in a state that would allow it to be restarted once we have a better understanding of how to drill this particularly complex interval effectively and profitably," said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Predator Oil and Gas.
