British Firm Emmerson to Invest $500 Million in Morocco’s First Potash Plant

The British company Emmerson is preparing to launch a potash plant in Morocco. This project has required several years of technical studies and a fundraising of $47 million.
At a time when the potash price is skyrocketing, particularly due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, the British company Emmerson has decided to invest in a mine in Khemisset. It says it is ready to launch the construction of Africa’s first potash plant. The London-listed company had obtained the 19-year mining license through a local company.
In a press release, the company indicates that the initial project cost is estimated at $415 million, but it will be revised upwards, to $450 or $500 million. The feasibility studies conducted reassure Emmerson. The annual post-tax investment revenue could reach $1.4 billion, with an annual potash production set at 810,000 tons. Khemisset "has demonstrated an incredibly low pre-production capital cost of $387 million," which represents "less than half of its average global capital intensity," the British company said.
