British Family's Marrakech Anniversary Trip Marred by TUI Luggage Mishap

After arriving in Marrakech on a TUI flight, a British man and his family found themselves without their luggage. They blame the airline for ruining their dream vacation.

Peter Mowbray, 55, took a flight from Manchester Airport to Marrakech on August 1st to celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary with his wife and son. The trio had unforgettable experiences, including a hot air balloon flight through the Moroccan deserts and a visit to the second highest waterfall in Africa, reports Lancashire Live. But once they arrived at their destination, they were unable to enjoy their dream vacation. This is because their pink polka dot suitcase containing his wife’s dresses for events and dinners, as well as the father’s vacation clothes and any other items they would need during their stay, went missing.

"I had to wear the same shirt every night, I washed it by hand and let it dry, the 50-year-old laments. I was embarrassed, it was a very nice hotel and I didn’t want to look like I was wearing the same clothes every day." Peter says he contacted TUI to retrieve his suitcase. Without success. "They told us they couldn’t find the suitcase and when they do, it will be on the next available flight. They told me several things, just the things I wanted to hear," he confides.

It was only upon his return from vacation that Peter was able to spot his suitcase at Manchester Airport. He says he saw a man with a cart on which his suitcase was sitting. "I ran enthusiastically towards him and said, ’that’s my suitcase.’ [...] It looked like it had been dragged through the field by a tractor."

The suitcase had no security tag and there was no sign that it had been searched before the outbound flight. "It had been left in Manchester, even though they (the TUI agents) told me they couldn’t find it," he added. "All I ask of people is to be honest. We paid a lot of money for this vacation and it was supposed to be our dream vacation. It has been seriously tarnished," laments the 50-year-old. The company offered him £75 as compensation, but this did not appease Peter’s anger. "I want them to explain why they lied to me and why they left me on vacation in a resort where my wife spent thousands of pounds without clothes."
