British Couple Embraces Extended Stay in Tangier Amid Morocco’s Coronavirus Lockdown
Monday 4 May 2020, by
Unlike those who have sought to leave Morocco since the state of emergency was declared on March 20, Henry and Priscilla Sacramento, who came from Gibraltar, have chosen to self-isolate in Morocco. Without pressure and without any complaint, they have settled in their home in Tangier and are patiently waiting for the Moroccan authorities to announce the end of the confinement.
They are regular visitors to the kingdom and often come to spend holidays or to help charitable associations. This time, they will stay a little longer than usual, due to the coronavirus pandemic which has led to the implementation of certain preventive measures by Morocco. They are aware of this and are not offended by it.
"We stayed in our house in Tangier. We feel good there and especially safe," said the couple. "We had already started to follow the government’s advice, which is not to kiss or shake hands, to wash our hands regularly...," says Henry Sacramento. He adds that they had arrived in Tangier with suitcases full of clothes for a local charity. But the pandemic did not allow them to get in touch with the population, reports vhma.
They have stocked up on supplies that could help them get through the confinement period while strictly respecting the limits set by the authorities. They know that following the safety instructions and barrier gestures remain the best way to protect themselves. Even if life has changed somewhat due to the situation, some habits have remained and allow them to hold on until they can return to their Gibraltar. "We continue to fast one day a week as we have been doing for some time," says Henry Sacramento, while specifying that they are informed every day of the health situation in Gibraltar, in order to see how their fellow citizens are coping with the disease.
