Bright Fireball Streaks Across Moroccan Sky at 60,000 km/h, Visible from Spain

A fireball flew over the Moroccan sky at a speed of more than 60,000 km/h on Sunday, announced the Andalusian Astrophysics Institute (IAA-CSIC).
According to José María Madiedo, researcher at IAA-CSIC and director of the SMART project, the fireball was spotted in the Moroccan sky, at the level of the city of Ibouhjaren in the province of Nador, and could be seen from Spain, as it was "brighter than the full Moon".
The phenomenon occurred after a rock detached from an asteroid and entered the Earth’s atmosphere at a speed of more than 60,000 km/h. The fireball flew over the Moroccan sky at an altitude of 97,000 km, continued its trajectory towards the southeast before going out about 31,000 km above the city of Beni Oukill.
The passage of the fireball was reported by the astronomical observatories of Huelva, Seville, Sierra Nevada and La Sagra (Granada), Calar Alto (Almería) and La Hita (Toledo) of the SMART project, installed as part of the Southwest Europe Fireball and Meteor Network (SWEMN) aimed at monitoring the sky to study the impact of rocks and other objects in the solar system on the Earth’s atmosphere.
