Brest Residents Push for Revival of Direct Flights to Morocco

The people of Brest want the restoration of air links between their city and Morocco, which represents "a real need". A call for signatures has been launched in this direction.
The launch in 2018 by the airline Ryanair of a direct air link between Brest and Morocco and its presence at Brest Bretagne airport as of February 2022 only lasted a short time. Today, the wish of many people in the Brest country is the reestablishment of a regular direct link between Brest and Morocco, reports the site Le Télégramme Éric Mével, who works in real estate in Brest. He is undertaking an approach in this direction by relaying a form on social networks, in order to collect signatures for the restoration of a regular line.
"We are many, and I am the first, to regret the lack of air links from Brest, and especially towards Morocco. I have already obtained 700 signatures. There is a very strong Moroccan community in Brest, many Moroccan students and also many Brestois who would like to go to Marrakech, Agadir, Fez... Many are saturated with having to go as far as Nantes to take the plane. This creates a lot of inconvenience. [...] I have the impression that the Brest authorities are satisfied with this situation whereas Brest is at the end of the world and we also need to go on vacation," he explains, convinced that the restoration of flights to Morocco represents "a real need." "There is a desire and it should work. I have contacted a lot of travel agencies that have confirmed that many Brestois are demanding this destination, for holidays or short stays," he adds.
The next step is to hand over these signatures to the Bretagne ouest metropolitan chamber of commerce and industry (CCIMBO), in Brest. "I contacted the CCIMBO to try to put things in place, it was very difficult to reach them, everyone was passing the buck, they were telling me ’We don’t have any information’. I also contacted the airport authorities and it was the same," says Éric Mével. Finally, he manages to reach the services and is now in contact with a person in charge of development at the airport level. "For the moment, there are discussions that are progressing, but everything is conditional. I’m waiting for a meeting to discuss the project and the airlines that could potentially be interested in these destinations".
