Brain Drain Accelerates: Morocco Sees 5.3% Rise in Skilled Workers Leaving for Jobs Abroad

The data recorded in the latest report of the Ministry of Labor and Professional Integration indicate that the exodus of skills continues dangerously.
In total, nearly 22,735 job seekers left for abroad at the end of September 2019, compared to 21,589 in 2018, an increase of 5.3%. Most of these Moroccans are asking to work in Spain (the country recording the largest circular migration campaign of seasonal workers in the world), Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, France and Germany.
The [National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC)] was responsible for processing a large number of files. In total, 14,915 files of job offers abroad, of which 98% were for seasonal workers and 98% were women, down 4.5% compared to the previous year, due to the decline in job offers in the Gulf countries, were processed, according to the report of the Ministry of Labor and Professional Integration.
According to the same source, Spain welcomed 14,618 Moroccan job seekers while Canada welcomed 100 employees, the United Arab Emirates 163, Qatar 28, France 4 and Germany only 2 employees.
Most of these employees registered by ANAPEC work abroad in fields such as agriculture, distribution, hotels, catering, trade and industry, as well as teaching and hairdressing.
