Brahim Díaz: FIFA validates the change of sports nationality

Brahim Díaz will be a Moroccan international in the coming days. The Real Madrid midfielder has decided to play for the Moroccan team, after playing in the Spanish youth categories. A choice that complies with FIFA requirements.
Born in Malaga to a Moroccan father and a Spanish mother, Brahim Díaz has the possibility of playing for Morocco or Spain. The young player has already played for the Spanish youth categories, but this is not enough to make him a Spanish international.
According to FIFA rules, the Real Madrid star can change his sports nationality if he has not yet played three official or non-official matches with the Spanish team, or participated in a World Cup or continental competition. The player must also be under 21 years old at the time of his last match in an official competition.
Brahim Diaz meets all these conditions. The Real Madrid player has only played one match with La Roja. It was the friendly match against Lithuania, played in June 2021 at the Butarque stadium. The young player was indeed 21 years old at the time, but it was a non-official match.
