Boeing Faces New Scrutiny as Manufacturing Defects Found in 787 Dreamliner Fleet

After the B737 MAX crisis, the American manufacturer Boeing is now being denounced for a second, with the identification of manufacturing defects on the B787 Dreamliner, an aircraft that is part of the Royal Air Maroc fleet.

The anomaly is at the level of the horizontal stabilizers that allow the aircraft to be kept in balance in flight, added to "two distinct manufacturing problems" at the rear of the fuselage of certain 787s, acknowledges the American aircraft manufacturer.

Boeing indicates that the long-haul 787 Dreamliner entered service in 2011 and has gained popularity due to its size and energy efficiency. To date, nearly 1,000 have been delivered.

As a result, Boeing has decided to closely examine both the aircraft under construction and in service, or nearly 900 aircraft, it reports. This assessment, Boeing has done with the American civil aviation administration and is determined to inspect the eight affected aircraft already in service and belonging to United Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Air Canada who have grounded them.

This situation comes in the midst of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which is severely testing global air transport. Consequence, planned job cuts (Boeing talks about more than 16,000); the order book of 860 aircraft in May has been revised downwards since then.

According to a monthly report published on Tuesday, Boeing recorded a total of 8 new orders across all aircraft types for 20 cancellations.
