New Ships for Moroccan Expats This Summer
For summer 2026, the GNV shipping company is deploying two next-generation vessels between Genoa and Tangier Med. A significant boost for Operation Marhaba, offering greater comfort and a reduced ecological footprint for Moroccans living in Europe.
The maritime company GNV, a subsidiary of MSC, is strengthening its offerings for the summer season. The vessels "GNV Aurora" and "GNV Virgo" will be deployed on the Genoa-Tangier Med route, with a strategic stopover in Barcelona. These weekly rotations will begin on June 1st and July 1st, 2026 respectively. This reinforcement aims to streamline traffic on this major axis, considered the logistical gateway to the African continent.

This massive investment is primarily intended for Moroccans residing in Europe. Matteo Catani, the company’s chief executive officer, specifies that this launch guarantees families "a more comfortable and more reliable travel experience." The initiative is piloted in close coordination with Moroccan authorities, notably the Ministry of Transport and the Mohammed V Foundation, to optimize passenger reception.

Technologically advanced, these new vessels operate on liquefied natural gas, reducing CO2 emissions by 50%. They also integrate an electrical shore connection system, allowing generators to be shut down at port to eliminate polluting discharges. With 426 cabins and a capacity of 1,700 passengers, these units mark a turning point, it is said, in the energy transition of trans-Mediterranean transport.
