Biden Reaffirms US Support for Israel-Arab Normalization, Reassuring Morocco

In the phone call he had with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last Wednesday, current US President Joe Biden affirmed "US support for the recent normalization of relations between Israel and countries in the Arab and Muslim world." This is reassuring for Morocco.

While the Algerian lobby is in action to challenge the US recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara obtained in exchange for the normalization of diplomatic relations between the kingdom and Israel, the new US president seems unfazed. Joe Biden stressed "US support for the recent normalization of relations between Israel and countries in the Arab and Muslim world," as well as "the importance of working to advance peace throughout the region, including between Israelis and Palestinians," according to a statement from the White House cited by Jerusalem Post and Reuters.

Prior to this phone call between the two senior officials, the new US Secretary of State had reacted to the normalization agreements between the Hebrew state and four Arab countries during an interview in late January with Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi. Antony Blinken had "welcomed the Abraham Accords that were signed in recent months between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco." "It is in the interest of the United States to continue this process, also under the Biden administration," he insisted, assuring that his country’s "commitment to Israel’s security is sacrosanct."
