Berber New Year 2970 Celebrated in Molenbeek with Ancient Amazigh Traditions

The Marbel association is extending the New Year’s festivities by organizing the Berber New Year in Molenbeek. This will be on Friday, January 10 at the Karreveld Castle.
The Amazighs will be entering the year 2970. Their calendar is indeed one of the oldest in the world. Unlike the Gregorian and Islamic calendars, the Amazigh calendar does not coincide with any religious event. The only historical event in common with the others is the battle of the Amazighs against the ancient Egyptians. This date marks the investiture of an Amazigh king Chichong on the pharaonic throne, after he defeated King Ramses III and his troops, reports the newspaper La dernière heure.
As for the celebration of the Berber New Year, MarBel intends to raise awareness among the Amazigh and Maghrebi community in Belgium of its identity specificities and create a cultural link between the generations of immigrants in Belgium. During the evening, three internationally renowned Amazigh music groups will amaze the audience with the cultural richness of their songs.
These are the Ahwach Taafrougte folk group known for its inspirations from the rites of southern Morocco, the Kif-Kif Bledi group, which promotes an openness to Arab-Berber culture by exploring, with a modern approach, the dances from the traditions of the Maghreb and the Middle East. Finally, the Imdyazen N’Arrif group, from the Rif region, whose cultural specificities are well-established.
In addition to the Amazigh cultural and culinary wealth that will be celebrated, a tribute will be paid to three first-generation couples whose children have succeeded in academic and professional life, the same source indicates.
