Belgium: From STIB Bus Driver to Renowned Chocolatier

After twenty years of career as a bus driver, Youcef Amar took the leap. He has just opened his own artisanal chocolate shop in the historic center of Brussels, offering an authentic alternative to industrial chains.

It all started fourteen years ago with a simple invitation. While he was transporting thousands of passengers daily for STIB, a colleague invited him to join an evening training course. A revelation for this man who, last March, decided to leave his steering wheel behind to set up his own business, as reported by RTBF.

It was on Rue du Lombard, near the Grand-Place, that he opened "Plaisirs chocolatés." Despite the omnipresence of industrial vendors, the craftsman chose this location with a back room to set up a visible manufacturing space. His goal is to showcase genuine local expertise. "For a chocolate country, we offer nothing but this kind of quality, we offer nothing to tourists and I found that sad," he explains.

To stand out from this fierce competition, the entrepreneur is betting on a modern approach to confectionery. His homemade pralines prioritize aesthetics as much as taste, seeking to provoke a visual "Wow" effect before the "Yum" sensation in the mouth. A recipe that works: his creations, shared through videos on social media, are already attracting curious customers eager to discover the fruit of this bold career change.
