Belgium Bus Driver Praying Video Sparks De Lijn Controversy

Tom Van Grieken shared the footage on social media, claiming it was filmed on Monday morning in Vilvorde. The elected official accused the driver of making passengers wait in the cold in order to pray. In the brief sequence, a person can indeed be seen repeatedly bending down in the middle of the bus’s central aisle.

Caught off guard, the Flemish public transport company immediately urged caution. A De Lijn spokesperson stated that the quality of the footage makes it impossible to identify the location, the exact date, or the driver involved. While reiterating that the company’s internal regulations formally prohibit praying during working hours, the spokesperson also emphasized that it is impossible to confirm with certainty the nature of the movements shown, or to know whether the employee was on a break at the time.
