Morocco Trip Turns Into Bus Stop Fine Nightmare for Belgian Resident

Zakaria Zanoudi’s return from vacation was a bitter one. He left for Morocco on 23 August 2025, and five days later, this resident of Limburg province was informed that transport company De Lijn had installed a temporary bus stop right in front of his door, precisely where his partner’s vehicle had been parked.

Unable to move the car from abroad, the couple was fined for obstructive parking. The initial 110-euro fine went unpaid due to a lack of productive dialogue and quickly rose to 355 euros, an amount now being claimed by a bailiff, reports Nieuwsblad.be.

The incident was compounded by a bureaucratic malfunction. De Lijn explained that it had never been able to link the letters of appeal sent by Mr. Zanoudi to the infringement file because the vehicle was registered in his wife Amira’s name. “Mistakes were made on both sides,” the public transport operator acknowledged.

Following mediation, De Lijn announced that it had begun discussions with the couple to resolve the incident through an amicable settlement.
