Belgian Tomato Producer Expands with New Greenhouse in Morocco

A new greenhouse has been built in Agadir by Den Berk Délice, a Belgian producer specialized in snack tomatoes.

Den Berk Délice has installed its first greenhouse in Morocco. Located in the Agadir region, it has been designed according to the "mid-tech" concept and has modern infrastructure such as a closed water system and ventilation options. Its production started last November. The total area cultivated by Den Berk Délice exceeds 100 hectares. It is the company’s tenth greenhouse and the first located outside of Belgium.

The installation of this greenhouse is part of the continuation of several years of collaboration with Moroccan contract growers. "We have worked with Moroccan growers for the production of our Pure Délice red cherry tomatoes and our Party Délice cherry tomato assortment. Although this cooperation has fulfilled its purpose, we wanted to better control the cultivation process in order to more effectively manage the quality and timing of the harvests," explained Loes van der Velden, sales and marketing manager, during the construction phase in the fall.

Growing in its own greenhouse is an advantage for Den Berk Délice. The company can more accurately anticipate production deadlines from planting and offer its customers reliable volume forecasts. "This represents a significant added value for distributors, who are looking for a stable and consistent supply," added Loes. Den Berk Délice also guarantees a favorable work environment for local staff, including modern facilities such as a high-tech canteen and comfortable locker rooms. "We want the working conditions in Morocco to be comparable to those in Belgium," the manager stressed.
