Belgian Footballer Sofian Kiyine Tests Positive for Alcohol After Serious Car Crash

Football player Sofian Kiyine, midfielder for the Belgian club Oud-Heverlee Louvain, tested positive for alcohol after a road accident that occurred on March 30 near the Flémalle sports hall, according to information communicated by the Liège prosecutor’s office cited by Belga.
Sofian Kiyine hit a roundabout at full speed before flying several meters and ending up inside a sports hall. The accident was violent and the player was injured. The emergency services had to extricate him before transporting him to the hospital.
The toxicological analysis revealed that Sofian Kiyine had an alcohol level of 1.6 grams per liter of blood at the time of the accident. The player of Moroccan origin was deprived of his liberty to be questioned about the causes of the accident. He explained that he had consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel and that he had been the victim of a blackout.
The player is being prosecuted by the justice system and will have to appear before the Liège police court, and his club has sanctioned him by excluding him from the team.
