Belgian Family Welcomes Rare Monozygotic Triplets, Expanding to Eight Children

In Belgium, a couple from Hamont-Ached, already parents of a 17-year-old, a 13-year-old and a 20-month-old, suddenly see their family grow with the arrival of triplets.
The birth of the monozygotic triplets, an event that has a one in 100,000 chance of occurring, literally changes a life. The three girls are named Hafsa, Houda and Hiba. According to the explanations of gynecologist Tinne Mesens, who followed this extraordinary pregnancy, strict monitoring is necessary due to the risk of complications. Despite these potential dangers, the birth of the three babies went well. "The three little ones were in good health, each weighing over a kilo. Such a good start is priceless," Mesens rejoices.
"Our first reaction? A fit of laughter," recounts the mother of the children, speaking anonymously. She had to stay at the Genk hospital for two weeks before giving birth by caesarean section to these three babies. Premature, the three little ones had to spend the first few days in an incubator before arriving in their home. Now the family is learning to live differently. "Every three hours, we give a bottle to the three babies. Their care, with diapers and feeding, takes about two hours. And an hour later, it starts again," explains the mother to Nieuwsblad.
The birth of these three girls brings joy and happiness to the family. The couple and their other children are adapting to their new routine. Due to the striking resemblance of the triplets, which causes some confusion, the family still uses the hospital identification bracelets to differentiate the babies. The father, Hafid, considers the welcome of the three babies as a repetition of history, as he is a twin himself and there are other cases of multiples in his family.
