Belgian Family Attacked in Morocco Vacation Nightmare

A Belgian family who came to spend eight days in Martil, near Tétouan, claims to have been attacked after complaining about noise in an apartment building. The case is to be examined by Moroccan justice.

The Moroccan vacation turned out short for Imane and Adnane Hamrane. Arriving from Belgium with their children to spend eight days in Martil, near Tétouan, they say they experienced a very difficult first night in the apartment provided to them.

According to their account, noise coming from an apartment on the first floor prevented the children from sleeping. Imane reportedly went down once to ask the neighbors to lower the volume, before Adnane did the same, according to La Dernière heure.

As the noise continued, the family reportedly decided to leave in the middle of the night to go to a hotel. It was at this point that the situation allegedly escalated in the stairwell, then at the foot of the building.

The family claims to have been insulted and prevented from leaving. One of the daughters was allegedly assaulted. The rear windshield of the rental car was reportedly broken as the family attempted to leave.

After a visit to the emergency room in Tétouan, Imane and Adnane Hamrane went to the Martil police station to file a complaint. The neighbors also filed a complaint, accusing the Belgian family of breaking a door and striking them.

But a witness reportedly filmed part of the scene from his window. The video, handed over to investigators, would support the Belgian family’s version, according to Adnane Hamrane.
