Bayern Munich Missed Out on Signing Achraf Hakimi Due to Pandemic Financial Strain

Bayern Munich could have signed the Moroccan right-back before he finally joined Inter Milan. This is revealed by Christian Falk of SportBild (via @iMiaSanMia), who spoke with Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. Loaned to Dortmund between 2018 and 2020 by Real Madrid, Achraf Hakimi had made a name for himself in the Bundesliga and was one of the most sought-after defenders on the transfer market. But the Bundesliga champions were not able to sign him, as the Covid-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the club’s finances.

At the end of his loan to Dortmund, Hakimi had finally joined Inter Milan as part of a contract of around 43 million euros. An amount that Bayern could not afford for the player trained at Real Madrid. After Inter, the Moroccan international signed a five-year contract with PSG. The amount of the transaction is 60 million euros excluding bonuses. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is 70 million euros.
