Bayern Fans Criticize Mazraoui Over LGBTQ+ Stance in Bundesliga Match

Bayern Munich supporters waved a banner targeting Noussair Mazraoui during the first half of the match against Leipzig (1-3) in the Bundesliga. The Moroccan defender had supported his Toulouse compatriot, Zakaria Aboukhlal, who refused last weekend to wear the rainbow jersey as part of a campaign against homophobia.
"All colors are beautiful. In Toulouse, Munich and everywhere. Respect our values, Mazraoui," reads the banner unfurled by Bayern supporters in the first half of this match. At the origin of this reaction, Mazraoui’s support for Zakaria Aboukhlal who refused to wear the Toulouse jersey in the colors of the rainbow, as part of a campaign against homophobia carried out last weekend in the first two French divisions.
Four Toulouse players including Aboukhlal refused to wear this jersey during the match against Nantes. "Respect is a value that I appreciate a lot. This applies to others, but also to my personal convictions. So I don’t think I’m the best person to participate in this campaign," the Moroccan defender said in an Instagram post, sparking a mixed reaction, including from Mazraoui. "May God bless you, brother," accompanied by two hearts, the Bayern defender wrote in support of his compatriot.
"I only know that we are all committed and that our club supports the initiative. For the rest, I was really not aware, I was so focused on the match," said Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern’s sporting director, reiterating the club’s position in favor of diversity and against homophobia.
