Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Reflects on Racist Abuse at Real Madrid Match

Lamine Yamal was the victim of racist insults last October at the Bernabéu stadium, during the Clasico that ended in a resounding 4-0 victory for Barça over Real. Nearly five months later, the Barcelona prodigy of Moroccan origin looks back on this episode.
On October 26, Barça thrashed Real Madrid 4-0. Lamine Yamal had scored the third goal of the match in the 77th minute. After this achievement, the 17-year-old striker was the target of racist insults from Madrid supporters. "Fucking Arab", "Fucking black", can be heard from the stands in a video recorded that day.
In a recent interview with DAZN, the Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean prodigy returned to this incident. "I think that if we had lost, I might have thought: ’Why are they saying this or that to me? But in the end, it’s about enjoying life’," he explained to the sports channel.
The Spanish prodigy added: "If someone insults you, it’s maybe because they were raised that way or didn’t receive the right values. So I don’t think you should pay attention to it, but rather move on."
Barça will play the return match against Real Madrid in early May, during the 35th matchday of La Liga. Currently top of the table, the Blaugrana now occupy second place behind the Merengues, after the postponement this weekend of their match against Osasuna, due to the death of the club doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia, at the age of 53.
