Barcelona Church Hosts Free Iftar Meals for Homeless Muslims During Ramadan

In Barcelona, Muslims in precarious situations or homeless gathered last Friday to take the iftar for free in the premises of the Catholic Church of Santa Anna during Ramadan. The holy month is taking place once again in a particular context linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We have been here at Santa Anna for a long time, for many years, but the social dining room started last year with the pandemic," said Faouzia Chati, president of the Association of Moroccan Women. "It was an initiative of the Muslim community," said Peio Sánchez, clerk of the parish of Santa Anna. According to him, the reaction of the people living on the street is very positive.
Faouzia Chati explained that breakfast, lunch and dinner are offered free of charge to Muslims in precarious situations or to homeless people. "And now, when Ramadan comes, Muslims can’t come to eat. So the food they have in the afternoon, they now have in the evening," she added, before revealing the prepared meal, the harira, the traditional Moroccan soup.
