Ballistic Report Clears Police in Marseille Grenade Death of Elderly Woman

More than a year after the death of Zineb Redouane, struck by a grenade in front of her window on the 4th floor of Rue des Feuillants in Marseille, the ballistic expert report is now available. It exonerates the police and concludes that it was an accidental shot.
As soon as the results of the 75-page report were published, the deceased’s daughter did not hesitate to oppose it: "I don’t believe it," she said, recalls Le Monde. In plain terms, the octogenarian was accidentally hit by a grenade shot. According to the conclusions of this report, "the weapon was used according to the recommendations and procedures in force in the national police." Milfet Redouane’s mother, seriously injured, did not survive. She died the next day, in the hospital, on the operating table.
This was followed by a legal battle between the victim’s family and the security forces. If for her daughter, fearing the conclusions of this report, the change of venue of the case had been requested, Me Bouzrou, the family’s lawyer, believes that the judicial investigation into the death of Zineb Redouane initially opened in Marseille has since been moved to Lyon. "We were right to consider that it was impossible in this case to obtain justice in Marseille," added Me Bouzrou, the family’s lawyer.
According to him, it is a shot that hit the deceased in its ascending phase, "it is therefore a tense shot facing a residential building. How can it be considered regulatory?", hammered the lawyer.
Recalling the incident, the daily indicates that violent incidents had broken out at the foot of her building. In total, 200 grenades were fired that day, according to the hearings of the IGPN and several civil servants heard.
As for the exploitation of the surveillance camera images, it shows a CRS who makes a "bell-shaped" shot, towards the octogenarian’s building, then looks up several times in front of him. Determined to prevail, the octogenarian’s family has in turn filed a complaint for "intentional violence resulting in death without intent to give it".
