Baleària Wins €135 Million Contract for Electric Ferries on Spain-Morocco Route

Baleària won the contract on Friday for the construction of two electric ships with a capacity of 800 passengers, worth 135 million euros. These two ferries will serve the Tarifa-Tangier City route.
The shipping company was awarded this contract following a tender process. The construction of these two electric ships will take two and a half years, reports La Vanguardia. "Baleària presented the most sustainable and technologically advanced project of the three that participated in the tender," said its president, Adolfo Utor, estimating that the award of this contract is good news for Spain and Morocco, but also for the shipping company that has been serving the Tarifa-Tangier City line for nearly 20 years.
As indicated by the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras in a press release published on Friday, Baleària’s financial offer was the lowest compared to that of its two competitors. "Pending official confirmation, we can conclude that Baleària was the big winner of the tender: a Spanish shipping company with two electric ships of Spanish construction," rejoiced Utor, adding that "the commercial and technological strength demonstrated by Baleària will generate greater wealth in the territory and promote an increase in economic and cultural activity both in Andalusia and in Tangier".
