Baleària Seeks Fleet Expansion to Boost Morocco-Spain Ferry Service for Expats

One of the ambitions of the maritime transport company Baleària, which partly ensures the return of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) to Morocco, is to buy the Canarian company Armas. In the meantime, its priority is to continue to acquire ships and increase maritime lines.
Baleària is "positioned" in the event of the sale of the Canarian maritime company Armas, its president Adolfo Utor assured, during the presentation of the company’s results. "We are very much awaiting it," he added. For now, Baleària remains focused on acquiring new ships and launching new maritime lines.
With a fleet of 34 ships, Baleària operates 25 lines in six countries including Morocco. In 2022, the company established itself as the leading maritime company in Spain. In terms of passengers, it transported 64% more than in 2021, which represents nearly 60% of the company’s turnover. The routes with the Balearic Islands maintained a high occupancy rate, while the reopening of borders with Morocco and Algeria is behind strong demand.
Since January, the Balearia ship Volcán de Tauce has been providing the regular link between the port of Motril and the port of Tanger-Med in Morocco.
