Avocado Prices Plummet in Europe as Moroccan Production Surges

Due to the ever-increasing increase in production in Morocco, Israel, Spain, avocado prices have fallen on the European avocado market.
A third summer marked by a drop in avocado prices. It was necessary to spend an average of eight and a half euros instead of twelve euros to buy the four-kilogram box this summer. The same observation last winter, where prices have experienced a huge drop over the past decade, due in particular to the increase in production in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, but also in Israel, Spain or Morocco, reports RFI. If producers do not reduce their volumes, prices will continue to fall.
Eric Imbert, a researcher at the Center for International Cooperation in Agricultural Research for Development (Cirad), notes however a positive development. His explanations show that the bottom of the market is excellent. For about ten years worldwide, the avocado market has been growing at a double-digit rate, around 12% per year. In contrast, trade in other fruits is only increasing by about 2%.
