Automotive Market Shows Signs of Recovery as Lockdowns Ease

The automotive market continues its recovery. With deconfinement, importers-distributors could now gain visibility.
According to the daily l’Économiste, the gradual lifting of confinement would result in a resurgence of activity for the automotive market. For the newspaper, governments in France have put in place measures to support automotive demand such as significant premiums for renewal, while Morocco is still awaiting the implementation of such measures.
Pending the stability of the epidemiological situation, life seems to be resuming its normal course, positively affecting the automotive sector. According to the same source, customers of vehicle dealerships are once again experiencing a need for mobility.
In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, around 9,651 vehicles were sold in June, despite a sharp drop of 33.45% compared to the same period a year ago. For Adil Bennani, president of the Aivam, there are 2 types of buyers in the market, namely first-time buyers and renewers. "With the health crisis and the resulting mobility problems, it is clearly the former who have driven demand in June. I recall that we are only achieving between 60 and 65% of what we should be achieving in a normal June month... and this despite the fact that demand has stopped for 3 months," he recalled.
With the deconfinement announced by the government, importers-distributors have embarked on a promotional race to boost sales, but without going overboard with some tempting offers (0% credit, discounts on certain models...).
