Atlas Lions Roar: Morocco's U20 Squad Primed for World Cup Clash with Spain

The U20 Atlas Lions will face Spain on Sunday for their first match of the World Cup, which will take place from September 27 to October 20, 2025 in Chile. A few days before the match, Mohamed Ouahbi, coach of the Moroccan team, is serene and confident.

The Atlas Lions arrived in Chile at the beginning of the week. And the preparations are going well. Some of them are already acclimatizing. "The most important thing is that we have arrived well, and that we have been very well received. We have good training conditions, the temperature is ideal for playing football. In terms of acclimatization, the players continue their efforts to get used to the time difference. This work actually started before our arrival in Chile. We made sure that the players present in the training camp, or those playing in Europe, shifted their days so that they could sleep as late as possible to save time," said Mohamed Ouahbi.

There are other players who are joining those who are already in Chile. "What is a bit complicated is that there are still players arriving. That’s why we’re doing a lot of individualization: some players can already increase the intensity quickly, others not yet," explained the coach of the Atlas Lions. For this fourth participation of Morocco in this competition, Ouahbi has great ambitions: "We have arrived here with great ambitions. We have confidence in ourselves and in what we can achieve, but also confidence in Moroccan football and what it has represented for many years. We know we have to be up to the task and we will do everything to achieve it."

He adds: "The players are very eager to start the competition."
