New ’Asterix and Obelix’ Film to Shoot in Morocco and France

The film "Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom" will soon be partly filmed in Morocco. But before that, a battle scene will be shot in May in the Puy-de-Dôme, in France.
The directors are showing more interest in Morocco. Part of the film "Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom" by French director Guillaume Canet will soon be shot in the kingdom. Meanwhile, part of the filming will start in a few days on the Guéry plateau (Puy-de-Dôme). Actors and technical teams are meeting for the filming of a battle scene. "It’s a scene where our actors will come. Not all of them, but some will come: Caesar will come (EDITOR’S NOTE: played by Vincent Cassel), the Empress of China (Linh-Dan Pham), a Chinese princess (Julie Chen) and of course Asterix and Obelix (Guillaume Canet and Gilles Lellouche). It’s a big scene that will be shot, which represents a battle opposing the Roman and Chinese armies, with the Gauls," explains Xavier Amblart, executive producer of the film, to France info.
There are more than 400 extras. They are Romans, Chinese and Gauls. A hundred technicians, make-up artists, costume designers, stuntmen, cameramen and all the members of the technical team will also participate in the filming of the film. The Covid-19 pandemic has delayed the filming schedule. "We were supposed to shoot last year, on June 15, 2020, and we stopped everything in mid-March. We were even supposed to go to China to shoot some sequences, we canceled. We had quite enormous constraints and even today we are constrained: we started filming and we are extremely careful, with really huge barrier gestures and daily tests," says Xavier Amblart. Everything is now back in order. The release of this feature film will take place in the last quarter of 2022.
