Assault on Spanish Police at Ceuta Border Sparks Tension with Morocco

While Spanish police officers had come to help their Moroccan counterparts at a border post in Ceuta, some media sources claim that two Moroccan porters would have assaulted two of these police officers.
On Tuesday, around early evening (around 7:30 p.m.), at the Tarajal border post, the crossing was slowed down due to the large number of freight carriers and the necessary checks to be carried out by the Moroccan agents.
El Faro de Ceuta talks about it: "This situation forced the national police officers (Spanish), usually deployed at the Tarajal border, to intervene to preserve public order. They tried to organize the queues, because the crowding of porters with packages prevented the passage of other pedestrians and vehicles in Morocco".
In short, the porters were causing a nuisance and some who were close to the exit probably had to abandon their positions for new ones in other queues.
While the agents were trying to rearrange the ranks, two men threatened them and tried to attack them. They would even have started to turn the other people against the Spanish police, explains the media.
"This motivated their arrest as alleged perpetrators of a crime of assault on an authority agent. The two men, who also strongly resisted arrest, were brought to justice on May 22, 2019".
