Artcurial Expands to Morocco: French Auction House Opens Marrakech Branch for African and Orientalist Art

The first French auction house, Artcurial, announced on Wednesday the opening of a subsidiary in Morocco. It will be exclusively dedicated to the sale of Orientalist paintings and contemporary African art. A strategy to get closer to its clients on the African continent.
After organizing a large number of presentations and sales by duplex with Paris in Morocco in 2011, Arcurial has finally decided to settle in the Kingdom.
This is a first in Africa and the subsidiary will open its doors in the Hivernage district of Marrakech and will be managed by an entirely Moroccan team.
Its areas of focus will be Moroccan decorative arts, ceramics, glassware, furniture, textiles, jewelry and antique weapons.
The new Moroccan structure will allow greater involvement of local players, in particular, by giving buyers the opportunity to pay in dirhams and sellers the opportunity to include their paintings and objects in prestigious sales, Artcurial notes.
Oliver Berman, Director of Artcurial Maroc, welcomed the imminent opening of a subsidiary in Morocco with offices and sales in Marrakech and Casablanca, to strengthen the ties between the house and the rich and diverse Moroccan clientele.
Artcurial Maroc will eventually expand its specialties to other areas with several sales sessions per year.
The auction house also announces three auction sessions per year, at New Year, in the spring and in the fall, two of which will take place in Marrakech while one will be held in Casablanca.
