Arson Attempt at French Mosque Thwarted; Suspect Arrested

A fire broke out overnight from Wednesday to Thursday within the premises of the mosque in Bourgoin-Jallieu, located on Rue Pasteur. The firefighters managed to extinguish the fire and the city’s police officers arrested the alleged perpetrator.
On Thursday, the police of Bourgoin-Jallieu arrested a 29-year-old man who had just set fire to a marquee within the premises of the Turkish mosque in the city, on Rue Pasteur, and damaged a vehicle, reports France Bleu. Alerted, the firefighters arrived on the scene and managed to extinguish the fire. No casualties are to be deplored. Only one material damage recorded: the tarpaulin of the marquee "is damaged in one corner and slightly blackened on a small surface". There are "no collateral damage", the police specify.
After his arrest, the alleged arsonist was taken into custody. The worshippers met for the midday prayer describe a man suffering from mental disorders whose family frequents the mosque. Not him himself. The Bourgoin-Jallieu police confirm this information. His custody suspended, the defendant was admitted to the Porte de l’Isère Mental Health Establishment in Bourgoin-Jallieu.
