Arrived in Spain under a truck, a Moroccan named Marouane is now a police officer
The Seville Local Police honored one of their own this Monday. Marouane Chhayby Braik, who became a municipal agent after a difficult immigration journey, received a strong tribute during the ceremony for the Police Corps Holiday.
Arrived in Spain as a minor, hidden under a heavy truck, the young man is presented by the municipality as a model of integration, commitment to public service, and self-improvement.
A video shown during the event retraced the journey of this son of a pastry chef from Kenitra. Driven by the desire to seek a better future, he had left his hometown by bus to reach Tangier. After several unsuccessful attempts, he had managed to evade the controls and cross the strait to the port of Algeciras, hidden under a truck. Apprehended by the police upon arrival, he had been transferred to a juvenile center before being taken to Seville. Upon reaching adulthood, he was housed in an apartment for former minors under care and continued his schooling with the Salesians, where he felt genuine benevolence towards him.
"They like to see a compatriot serving as a police officer"
The culmination of his efforts was the successful passing of the municipal police exam, a moment he describes with emotion: "I cried twice, when I was under a truck and when I was told I had just passed an exam." Today a civil servant, Marouane Chhayby Braik goes to work every day to enjoy his new life alongside colleagues he describes as welcoming.
In the field, the agent notes the positive effect of his journey during interventions involving Moroccan nationals, who are surprised and satisfied to see a compatriot wearing the uniform. Through his story, the police officer wishes to convey a message of hope to children, affirming that perseverance and hard work ultimately bear fruit.
