Archaeological Discoveries Unearthed in Salé’s Ancient Medina During Restoration Project

Archaeological remains and structures have been discovered at the Foundouk Al Kaa in the center of the medina of Salé. This was during the development work that has been undertaken there as part of the rehabilitation and enhancement project of this old medina (2019-2023).
These archaeological excavations were launched on June 7, 2021, under the supervision of the National Institute of Archeology and Heritage (INSAP), and the Regional Directorate of the Department of Culture, with the assistance of a specialized company in the field, reports MAP, specifying that the decision to carry out these works was taken following a first expertise carried out on site by the competent services of the regional directorate of culture of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra.
The interest, the Ministry of Culture said in a press release, is to learn more about the discovery and trace its entire historical circuit. The same document states that the excavations have so far allowed the discovery of archaeological structures, as well as several other objects, including ceramics and metal, witnesses to the richness of life in these places. All the exhumed remains will be the subject of a detailed scientific report in order to restore the history of the site.
