Arab Nations Call for Boycott of French Products Amid Islamophobia Tensions

Anti-French reactions are multiplying in the face of the measures taken by France following the assassination of the geography teacher. In Qatar, it is the largest distribution chain Al Meera that has removed all French products from its stores.

Calls for boycott have gained momentum in the Arab and Muslim world. Thus, Al Meera, one of the largest supermarkets in Qatar, has removed all French products from its shelves. "We affirm that as a national company, we work according to a vision that is in line with our religion, faithful to our established customs and traditions, in a way that serves our country and our faith, and responds to the aspirations of our customers," Al Meera said in a statement.

The French authorities have been waging fierce battles against Muslim organizations in the country for some time. More than 50 mosques and associations have been attacked. In addition, the French magazine Charlie Hebdo, which published the cartoons used by the teacher who was beheaded, has once again decided to publish the cartoons; all reasons that justify these reactions.

Many people have seen this reissue of the images as a provocation. With the French President indicating that his country "would not abandon the cartoons," thus brushing aside the idea of condemning the magazine’s decision. He who has sworn to implement measures against "what he called Islamic separatism," adds the same source.

Muslims around the world have therefore launched a campaign to denounce French Islamophobia. Al Meera, Sous Al Baladi, Qatar Shopping Complex, Al Wajda Factory and Snoonu and many other companies have expressed their support for the campaign. Muslims have even identified several major French brands to avoid. The University of Qatar did not remain on the sidelines of the boycott. It has canceled the French Cultural Week event.
